MACHINING AND FABRICATION ESTIMATOR

We are looking for a Machining and fabrication estimator whose primary responsibility is to prepare and finalize machining, fabrication, and millwright estimates based on client RFQs. The estimate must be prepared in a timely and accurate manner.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and interpret client drawings, weld symbols, machining symbols, tolerances, and specifications and calculate costs.
- Attend estimated kick-off meetings to determine the approach of RFQ opportunities.
- Develop labor hour strategies for the most cost-effective way to approach the work, (consult with shop in some cases). Input data from the drawings to determine labor hours.
- Work with the sales department in creating efficient strategies to price RFQs.
- Based on the type of job, state of drawings, and complexity of fabrication, determine the detailing hours.
- Secure pricing for all material required with the best possible yield and lowest scrap.
- Personally deal with clients, vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and suppliers, over the phone and e-mail while maintaining the best possible working relationship between Hillside and our clients, vendors, and suppliers.
- Determine what, if any, portions of the estimate shall be subcontracted; analyze subcontractor quotes for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare written quote estimates based on any assumptions made or exclusions taken.
- Review details of the estimate with the sales department and advise if there are any delivery obstacles in meeting the customer's requested ship date.
- After jobs are awarded, work with procurement and production to get the job to the shop as quickly as possible if needed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1-3 years experience working in a Manufacturing environment
- 2-4 years experience estimating
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and how it affects manufacturability, a plus
- Excellent organizational time management skills and strong interpersonal skills (verbal & written)
- Strong mechanical knowledge of machines, tools, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to work independently and be decisive
- Ability to manage multiple projects with a multitude of processes
- Capacity to make independent decisions and substantiate them
- Past fabrication, welding, or equipment installation experience preferred
